Linn County, Missouri was established on January 6, 1837, carved from portions of Chariton County. Named in honor of Dr. Lewis Fields Linn, a prominent Missouri physician and U.S. Senator who championed westward expansion, the county encompasses 620 square miles of rolling prairie and fertile farmland in north-central Missouri.

MOGenWeb LogoThe county seat was originally established at Linneus in 1837, named after the famous Swedish botanist Carl Linnaeus. Early settlers were drawn by rich soil perfect for agriculture and abundant timber along the Grand River and its tributaries. The first permanent settlers arrived in the early 1830s, primarily from Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and other parts of Missouri.

What's New from the New County Coordinator

Linn County is undergoing a complete site update & overhaul. Latest pages to be updated will appear in the right sidebar. All old pages and links will be brought back unless the data is no longer valid. Once that work is complete, I will start adding new data. My name is Lynda Peach; I am the new County Coordinator. I have ancestors who lived in Linn County. I want to find more information, especially in the 1800s and early 1900s.

At first, you may see a page that is very "plain", not looking like this page at all. I've stripped the old, bloated coding. Each will be updated to the new site look & feel.

Any link with an asterisk ( * ) following, will be updated to the new design.

That the design of Main Street in the Disney parks are based on those memories? Walt loved trains and actually arrived in Marceline at age 4 via train.
